DGNconform® Version 4 - The New MicroStation Office Manager
This server-based solution allows MicroStation users of all disciplines to check, correct, draft and report on MicroStation design files. With the release of Version 4 for MicroStation V 8.1, DGNconform can now also be used on AutoCAD® DWG and DXF Files. DGNconform provides users the ability to easily create and maintain drawings to a set standard, which will significantly reduce time spent reworking and correcting symbology during and at the end of a project.
DGNconform allows users to automatically draft according to standards defined in the DGNconform Feature Dictionary. When a feature is selected from the DGNconform drafting menu, the symbology for the feature and the command that the feature is to be drawn with is automatically set for the user. DGNconform V4 has a new automatic key-in recording ability that allows administrators to record Drafting menu key-ins for each feature. This enables administrators to quickly build up a Feature Table without having to know all associated key-ins. Key-ins recorded for the feature table can then be played back through the Drafting Menu, simply by selecting the Feature. The smart drafting capability is both intuitive and fast, creating greater efficiency and productivity in the CAD office. "The responsibility for CAD standards management has often been passed around and around in the drawing office. Up until recently, no one has wanted to take total responsibility for CAD standards because to check and manage drafting standards has not been a straightforward and easy task. However, with the release of DGNconform's easy to use intuitive tools, the job for administrators, drafters and checkers has become very straightforward," commented Doug Djukic, Training & Support Manager for Corporate Montage.
With the development of DGNconform V4 being customer-driven, the tools available work the way clients would use them in their drawing office. "The majority of the new tools in DGNconform V4 were developed in line with client requests and queries. We sat alongside users (drafters) in their environment to experience their work processes and the problems they face daily. This enabled us to develop tools that would provide a true solution that answers the problem and improves current processes," said Piers Porter, Software Developer for DGNconform. Evidence of how the package has been designed to suit the user is the absence of editing cumbersome text files. Since day one, DGNconform has been designed to have a simple point-and-click interface, so adding new features to a dictionary can be performed through an intuitive graphical user interface.
DGNconform can scan, verify and report on the integrity of design files. DGNconform V4 provides a batch reporting function to enable reporting to be conducted on a number of files, including reference files, in a single process. With its interactive functionality, DGNconform V4 will further find an associated feature / error in the design file through double clicking on an element in the report view. This will enable users, administrators and / or managers to quickly and interactively view and correct any errors in the design file. Once a design file is checked and corrected, DGNconform will place a watermark on the file to certify the file meets the corporate CAD standard.
